March 2024: Staff Spotlight

A college campus has many staff roles that help students achieve success. Gaylene Boyle, the GCCD Records and Registration Specialist, is more aware of that than anyone else. Her experience at Gillette College made her an easy nominee for the March Staff Spotlight.

Dean of Enrollment Management, Susan Serge, chose to recognize Gaylene this month. “Gaylene has been an integral part of our college for many years, participating as a student, a club advisor, our bookstore manager, and now our Records and Registration Specialist. Gaylene is a team player, always assisting when and where she is needed. Her passion for Gillette College is evident, and we are fortunate to have her talent in our enrollment department,” stated Dean Serge.

Her career at Gillette College began as a student when she served on the executive team of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). She then worked as a Financial Aid Assistant, Assistant Manager of the bookstore, club advisor, and finally, in her current role. She is a source of knowledge to all faculty and staff at the institution.

Ask Gaylene why she enjoys working at Gillette College, and her list of reasons is long. “Initially, when I started at Gillette College as a student, it was a couple of staff and faculty members that impressed me with how supportive they were of an incoming and terrified non-traditional student. Eventually they convinced me to apply for student employment, which eventually led to accepting a regular employment position, where I learned what an amazing institution we had outside of a classroom, and I wanted to be a part of that. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years I’ve been part of Gillette College, the biggest obviously being the split from Sheridan. It has probably been the biggest challenges I’ve seen us as an institution try to navigate. This split, along with my transition from the GC Bookstore to Records and Registration, combined with the several personal emergencies I experienced during this same time frame, has by far been my biggest challenge since beginning my journey at Gillette College in 2014. I sincerely don’t believe I would have been able to navigate everything without the amazing team I am so very fortunate to be working with, most especially the constant support from Dave Hamlett as my interim supervisor. What do I enjoy most about working at Gillette College? Without a doubt, my outstanding team and boss man, our amazing faculty, and the students that I get to work with everyday.”

Gaylene has a wealth of knowledge and is helpful to anyone she comes in contact with; we are fortunate to have her at Gillette College.
