Library Information Specialist, Brit Brown, Recognized as Staff Spotlight for April
Elizabeth “Brit” Brown has become a familiar and trusted face in the Davis Library at Gillette College in just a few short months. As the Library Information Specialist, Brit brings expertise and precision to her role, warmth, humor, and a passion for helping others. Her impressive transition from public libraries to higher education, along with her deep commitment to students and staff, has earned her the honor of being named Gillette College’s April 2025 Staff of the Month.
Brit joined the Gillette College team in November 2024 after serving as the head librarian at Rich County Library in Utah. There, she helped transform a children-focused library into a thriving community resource. Now, she’s channeled that same energy and innovation into academic librarianship. “She has transitioned from community to academics and has come full force with that,” said Sam Griffis, Director of Library Services. “Brit has great attention to detail and is always up for a challenge. Students seek her out, and staff love working with her.”
A background in technical writing has sharpened Brit’s skills in organization and clarity, strengths that have made an immediate impact in the library’s day-to-day operations. But beyond her professional skills, Brit’s personality has made her a standout on campus.
“Since joining our team, Brit has demonstrated exceptional performance, teamwork, and leadership,” Griffis added. “She immersed herself in the campus community and is known for being helpful and knowledgeable. Brit is not afraid of a challenge and regularly volunteers to take on additional tasks and learn the technical aspects of an academic library.”
For Brit, the feeling is mutual.
“I’ve only been here a few months, but thus far it is hands down my favorite job I’ve ever had,” she said. “I love working with students. I love working with the staff. I look forward to coming into work every day.”
Whether troubleshooting a database issue, helping a student find reliable sources, or simply welcoming someone with a smile, Brit has made her mark at Gillette College in record time. Her blend of professionalism, positivity, and passion for learning makes her a valuable staff member and a beloved presence across campus.
