Gillette College is proud to announce that nursing instructor Gwen Reed has been appointed as Vice President of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing (WSBN). Reed, who has been serving on the board as an educational representative, is looking forward to her new role, knowing that she can impact every nurse in Wyoming, as well as protect the public.
The Wyoming State Board of Nursing has many duties, but one that concerns Reed and Gillette College directly is its oversight of curriculum. Not only does the board approve every nursing faculty member hired in the state of Wyoming, but they also approve class syllabi for every institution. In addition, as GCCD works towards accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission, the Gillette College Nursing Program must seek its own individual accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). By sitting on the board, Reed can gain insight into the accreditation journey, which could help the nursing program progress through the steps in a timely manner.
Upon her appointment to Vice President of the WSBN, Lindsay Wakefield, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences, was excited to share the news and how deserved it is. “Gwen is a natural educator and a true public servant. Her involvement in not only the board but in other groups in the nursing community is a testament to her commitment to keep those in the medical career in Wyoming meeting top standards,” Wakefield stated.
Reed began her medical career as a firefighter. Over the years, she has earned various certifications and degrees, including E.M.T.B. certificate, Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I, Associate of Science in Paramedic, Associate Degree Nursing, ACLS/PALS Instructor, Master of Science in Nursing, Certified Emergency Nurse, and Certified Nurse Educator. Prior to all of these, Gwen held a Bachelor of Science in Education.
