Gillette Community College District’s Dean of Career and Technical Education, Travis Grubb, has been appointed to the Wyoming Association of SkillsUSA Board of Directors. SkillsUSA is a U.S. Department of Education-endorsed nonprofit organization that partners with students, instructors, and industry to ensure our nation has a skilled workforce.
During his three-year term, which begins this month, Grubb will participate in board meetings and offer his expertise to ensure the organization and its members, which has over 425,000 nationwide – over 900 in Wyoming, can learn and continue to expand. “I am honored to serve as a board member and I look forward to helping grow SkillsUSA across the state. SkillsUSA provides educational programs, events, and competitions that support and enhance the career and technical education (CTE) programs the students are enrolled in. In addition to their technical skills, students that participate in SkillsUSA also learn workplace and leadership skills that employers are craving,” said Grubb.
As the Dean of Career and Technical Education, Grubb has been instrumental in the continued development of GCCD’s certificate programs. “This appointment to Wyoming’s SkillsUSA Board of Directors is a testament to Travis’s dedication and passion for developing vital skills our students can continue to use in their careers and everyday lives. This appointment is not only a reflection of his leadership and expertise but also of the caliber of faculty at our institution,“ said Dr. Janell Oberlander, President of Gillette Community College District.
This spring, Gillette College students participated in the Wyoming SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in various contests resulting in seven gold medals, five silver medals, and three bronze medals.
