Gillette College is proud to announce Makayla Yelenich as the student spotlight for September 2024. Nominated by Lisa Arhart, English Instructor at Gillette College, Makayla Yelenich is a remarkable sophomore studying Secondary Education. Her dedication and outstanding contributions make her a shining example at Gillette College.
Makayla’s academic achievements are a testament to her unwavering commitment to her studies, even while working full-time at Prime Rib. Her dedication and outstanding contributions to the college community, such as serving as the Treasurer for the Creative Writing Club, make her a shining example at Gillette College. Makayla’s leadership qualities and compassionate nature are evident in her active participation in class and club meetings, and her impact extends beyond the campus as she donates her time to make sandwiches for local firefighters during their busy periods.
Not only is Makayla a high-achieving student, but she also embodies the spirit of giving back. She is proposing a fundraiser activity to support the Hope Cupboard. Makayla states, “We’re trying to get more necessities in there. Besides basic food items, we also want to put in laundry detergent, deodorant, and more, just everyday items, and enough that people can continuously get items as they need them.”
Her dedication to serving the community is what makes her truly deserving of this month’s nomination. Despite facing personal challenges, Makayla’s resilience and determination have been instrumental in her academic and personal growth.
Upon graduating from Gillette College this coming May, Makayla intends to transfer to Black Hills State University, where she will continue her pursuit of a Secondary Education degree. Her outstanding work ethic, academic accomplishments, and dedication to community service make her truly deserving of this spotlight.
